Exploring the world outside to awaken the Universe within- Being Anvani

Updated: 4 days ago

Atma Namaste!

This month, we begin to peel back one more layer of The Anvani Centre, Pune — to explore what it truly means to be Anvani.

Our tagline, “Exploring the world outside to awaken the universe within,” is, in many ways, a mission statement. We believe that as we embark on this journey of inner healing and self-discovery, exploring the world outside — and allowing it to deepen our inner work — is of great importance.

In today’s world, healing often appears glamorous and liberating. But that image can create a distorted perspective. In reality, healing is uncomfortable. It is cyclical — until, one day, the time between cycles begins to stretch, and the discomfort becomes fleeting.

So in the real world, would you step away from your responsibilities, pause your daily tasks, and make time to “heal”? Probably not. It’s not always practical. That’s why so many of us believe the solution lies elsewhere — in a place, a vacation, somewhere that’s not here. And while we may feel relaxed, even transformed on that journey, we often return home only to find the same old trigger waiting for us.

I learnt this lesson while healing from an accident. I realised I was terrified of getting back on the road. Every pothole, every bump would leave me shaking. But the truth is — those bumps and potholes aren’t going anywhere. If not these, there will be others. So what was the alternative? Should I have stayed home, safely tucked away from Pune’s busy roads? That was never an option.

I had to choose: either I work through my triggers so they no longer hijack me into a fight-or-flight state, or I stay stuck, feeling sorry for myself. Like most of us, I chose the first.

Which is why, for me, exploring the world outside is essential — because we live in this world, we interact and engage with it every day. And using those experiences to awaken the universe within us is a powerful process. It brings every weakness to the surface. Every blemish into focus.

But that's where the magic begins. That's when we allow ourselves to be — to hold space for our imperfections as well as our strengths. To gently, lovingly work through them — until our weaknesses become allies, and our strengths become guardians.

And this is not a process that happens in isolation. It happens in the middle of life. In the argument that reveals how much you still need to say. In the commute that tests your patience. In the relationship that mirrors back the parts of yourself you haven't yet made peace with. The world outside doesn't interrupt the inner work — it is the inner work.

What changes, slowly, is how you meet it. The same trigger that once sent you into a spiral begins to feel more like a signal. Not a threat, but information. Your weaknesses stop being sources of shame and start becoming areas of honest curiosity. Your strengths stop being things you perform for the world and start being things you quietly rely on.

This is what it means to be Anvani — not fearless in the sense of feeling no fear, but fearless in the sense of not being stopped by it. Not perfect, but present. Not fixed, but in motion — with awareness, with compassion, and with a deep, growing trust in yourself.

The world outside will keep shifting. But the person navigating it becomes steadier. And that steadiness — built not in retreat, but in the middle of everyday life — is the most enduring kind of healing there is.

Anvani is not about walking barefoot.

It’s about becoming authentic. Fearless.

And coming home to yourself — in all your glory.

So the next time life brings you discomfort, instead of asking “How do I get away from this?” — maybe ask, “How can I allow myself to find peace in discomfort?”

The world outside will always be your mirror, your teacher. The more aware you are, the more power you hold to shift — not the world, but yourself within it.

That’s Being Anvani.

Till next time!

Love,

Arundhati
